Apple has been reported on multiple occasions to transition from mini-LED technology to OLED on the 2024 iPad Pro models, giving both the 11-inch and 12.9-inch a serious display upgrade, according to one analyst who provides his predictions on the premium tablet range. One of those predictions is that the newer models will be equipped with Apple’s 3nm M3 chipset.

Analyst believes that the 2024 iPad Pro models will ship up to 8 million units, which is lower than mini-LED versions, possibly due to the high price

Though analyst Ming-Chi Kuo did not predict the launch timeline of the 2024 iPad Pro models, he does state that one of the biggest changes arriving to next year’s tablets is OLED technology. Both slates will reportedly adopt the same LTPO backplanes as the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, exceeding in both image quality and power efficiency. The addition of LTPO backplanes also means that the new iPad Pro family will support ProMotion technology, supporting a refresh rate of 120Hz that can drop down to 1Hz depending on what is shown on the display, such as a static image.

However, a switch to OLED from mini-LED will obviously result in a price increase, and though Kuo has not shared how expensive the new 2024 iPad Pro models will be, he does provide a shipment estimate below, saying that up to 8 million units of the two variants will gain traction. Kuo also notes that the aforementioned figure is lower than the mini-LED versions of the iPad Pro, and that is likely associated with the high price, coupled with customers preferring the more affordable and larger 12.9-inch iPad Air.

“Shipments of the two OLED iPad Pro models will be 6–8 million units in 2024, with slightly weaker shipment momentum than the existing iPad Pros, possibly due to the higher price of OLED iPads and potential cannibalization from the 12.9-inch iPad Air.”

With the launch of the newer models, the mini-LED versions are expected to see a price drop, and if you are not keen on upgrading to the latest and greatest, you can easily get an M2 iPad Pro for a significantly lower price that will do your bidding perfectly.
