In other words, all handsets that were recently announced can be hooked up to a TV or external display that supports HDR and up to a 4K resolution.

Even with the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus limited to USB 2.0 data transfer speeds through the USB-C port, both models and the ‘Pro’ versions can be connected to a TV or external monitor that has a 4K resolution and up to a 60Hz refresh rate. The little tidbit was discovered by MacRumorsby digging around the specifications sectionof the newly announced iPhones, so it is a hefty change compared to the previous models.

Unfortunately, the iPhone 15 family does not support an extended display mode when using a USB-C to DisplayPort cable that is connected to the monitor, but those who own certain iPad models can definitely take advantage of this model through an iPadOS feature called Stage Manager. Instead, all iPhone 15 models support video mirroring, which pretty much projects whatever is being shown from the iPhone onto the display.

Assuming that you own a TV or external display that does not feature a DisplayPort connector, does that mean you will have to switch to something that features this specific port? Not quite, because Apple actually sells a USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter to help you in this regard, though the accessory costs $69, so you will have to be mindful of the price. On previous iPhone models with Lightning ports, video mirroring was limited to 1080p, and you also had to purchase adapters for your HDMI or VGA monitor, depending on what your existing display supported.
