AMD Board Partners Release X399 BIOS Updates To Support 2nd Generation Ryzen Threadripper Processors-April 2024
Apr 1, 2026 12:52 PM

AMD is getting ready to launch their next-gen Ryzen Threadripper 2000 series processors and so are their board partners. Almost all AMD board partners are gearing up to launch new AMD X399 refresh motherboards and also retaining support for the new processors on their current board lineups, for this reason, the partners are releasing new BIOS for users who will be upgrading to the new HEDT CPUs.

AMD Board Partners Release BIOS Updates For Current X399 Motherboards To Support 2nd Gen Ryzen Threadripper CPUs

The AMD 2nd Generation Ryzen Threadripper processors launch next month. They will be featuring the highest core count model for the HEDT market, the 32 core, 64 thread, the Threadripper 2990X, a beast of a chip. There will be a couple of other models that would make their way to the market like the 2950X (16 core) and 2970X (24 core). While current motherboards are technically ready to support the new processors, you'd still need a BIOS update to ensure full compatibility with these motherboards otherwise, using a 2nd Gen Threadripper on a current X399 motherboard will lead to no boot at all.

Also, it should be worth pointing out that you can use your current Ryzen Threadripper processors on the new X399 refresh motherboards. Similarly, your new CPUs will work perfectly on current X399 motherboards. It's part of AMD's philosophy to keep support retained on the same socket for future generations.

Coming to the motherboard BIOS, we have every specific motherboard listed alongside a link to the new BIOS which you can grab from their respective link. You can head over to the following links to update your current X399 motherboard. X399 Refresh won't require a BIOS update as they will all be shipping with the new BIOS from the start.

ASUS has yet to release updated BIOS for their X399 series motherboards but we will keep you posted when they do release it. Only two new X399 refresh motherboards have been shown so far which won't need a BIOS update as they will feature out-of-box compatibility with 2nd generation Ryzen Threadripper CPUs.

These include the MSI MEG X399 Creation and X399 AORUS Extreme. There would definitely be other X399 refresh motherboards hitting the market after launch while the rest of the existing X399 motherboards can be seen here.
