Android 14 Could Let You Find Your Device Even When The Phone Is Powered Off-February 2024
Feb 12, 2026 2:57 AM

With Android 14, Google is all about improving features and making sure that the existing features work better than they already are. Much like Android 13, I am not expecting the company is going to go with a visual overhaul. Still, all the privacy and other security features combined with improved accessibility should improve the upcoming Android version. Now, we know that Google is currently working on a feature that lets you find your device even when you power it off, making the feature a lot more convenient when the phone's battery is really low.

Android 14 takes a page out of Apple's book and could soon allow users to find their phone even when it's turned off

Based on information from Kuba Wojciechowski and 91Mobiles, Google is currently working on building a network that will connect all Android devices. The company has shared the Android 14 source code with its partners, and in the source code, there is a new Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) definition that reads “hardware.google. Bluetooth.power_off_finder“. Based on the information gathered from the code, preset Finger Network keys will be stored on the device's Bluetooth radio and will stay there even when the phone is switched off. Apple has been doing this for some time now, and it seems like Google is finally joining in.

Sadly, we are not sure if older devices are going to support this feature or not. We can expect the upcoming Google Pixel 8 to support this feature along with Google's own version of smart tags, but we are not sure if this feature would extend to the older Pixel devices and other phones. However, the source has confirmed that the source code has been shared with other OEMs, and the code was found in that source code, which is enough evidence that future Android phones could have this feature.

As for when this feature will be ready, we are going to have to wait and see. Android 14 is going to be official in a couple of months and will likely debut with Google Pixel 8. Hopefully, this feature will be ready by then, and we will be seeing it in full swing.

Stay tuned as we will be discovering a lot of Android 14 features as we head closer to the final release date. Let us know what feature you are looking forward to the most.
