Apple Introduces tvOS 17 With FaceTime, Continuity Camera, Redesigned Control Center, And A Lot More-February 2024
Feb 12, 2026 8:24 PM

Today at WWDC 2023, Apple also announced tvOS 17. The latest update brings a number of improvements to an already excellent operating system, including a newly revamped Control Center interface. In addition to that, the latest update is also bringing the ability to find Apple TV remote using your phone, an excellent feature for those who often end up losing the remote to the TV. You are also going to be able to have some new screensaver options, making the overall experience much better.

The tvOS 17 is a much-needed update to the Apple TV, making the experience significantly better with a lot of new additions

In addition to that, tvOS 17 is also bringing the FaceTime app to Apple TV, and you will be able to use Continuity Camera, which will basically use the cameras on your iPhone and iPad. I never really thought of FaceTiming someone on Apple TV, but hey, you can do that with the new update that will be rolling out later this year. The best thing is that the Continuity Camera API for Apple TV will be given to other developers so their apps can also make use of the same feature. You can expect all features, such as Center Stage, to work and make sure that everyone is having a breeze when communicating with their loved ones.

Furthermore, video conferencing apps such as Webex by Cisco and Zoom will also arrive on tvOS 17, making the overall conferencing experience even better for those who are looking to use the latest set of features.

Another new feature that is coming to tvOS 17 is called Apple Music Sing. It is basically a feature that lets users sing along to their favorite songs. The best thing? This feature will make use of a Continuity Camera, allowing you to see yourself on the screen and make things look even better by adding filters. A feature we didn't know we needed.

Circling back to Control Center, with tvOS 17, Apple has made the OS a lot better in terms of accessing settings and information with ease. The Control Center will actually give you all the needed information, such as system status, time, and active profile, and you can even expand it to gain more context.

Apple has ensured that with tvOS 17, the Apple TV and iPhone are more in sync with each other, and therefore, you will be able to use your phone to look for the Siri Remote. You can even launch the Apple TV remote inside the Control Center to look for the Siri Remote. However, this functionality only works on 2nd generation remotes or later.

What's even better is that when using the remote on your iPhone to wake up your Apple TV, you will be brought back to your profile, and you will also have direct access to the recently watched shows, along with all the personalized recommendations. Not just that, with the latest update, all the information, such as settings and preferences, will be saved for each user profile, so you don't have to worry about setting things up all over again.

With the latest tvOS 17 update, you are also getting some nifty updates to the way screen saves work on Apple TV as you can now make more customization, truly personalizing your TV experience. Not to forget, the latest update is going to bring features such as Enhance Dialogue, Dolby Vision 8.1 support, Apple Fitness+,and third-party VPN support.

As with all the other software releases, the tvOS 17 beta will be available to Apple Developer Program members starting today, with the public beta releasing next month and the stable update heading out later this year in the fall to both Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD.
