Apple Reportedly Cancels Its 27-Inch mini-LED Display, Which Would Have Arrived With ProMotion Support
Apple Reportedly Cancels Its 27-Inch mini-LED Display, Which Would Have Arrived With ProMotion Support-February 2024
Feb 12, 2026 8:24 PM

The follow-up to the Apple Studio Display would be a 27-inch monitor sporting a mini-LED, but unfortunately, the company has reportedly decided to cancel it, according to an individual close to the matter. The launch would have been coveted by many since there have been talks where the display would tout better features than the affordable Studio Display.

Apple’s 27-inch mini-LED display was supposed to launch in 2022, but the company experienced a torrent of issues that led to delays

Founder and CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) Ross Young pushed out a tweet for his super followers, talking about the cancellation of the standalone 27-inch mini-LED display. The tweet was spotted by 9to5Mac, and assuming that the launch would have materialized, it could have replaced the current Pro Display XDR and become Apple’s flagship monitor for creative professionals and content creators.

The more premium monitor was supposed to arrive in 2022, but Apple was said to have run into numerous problems with it, which ultimately forced the company to delay the product. While Young has not provided reasons for the cancellation of the 27-inch display, it would likely have to do with manufacturing problems, paired with macroeconomic issues that have put a dent in customers’ purchasing power.

Apple's 27-inch mini-LED display

The 27-inch mini-LED monitor would likely have replaced the Pro Display XDR

Only recently, we reported that over a 12-month period, Apple’s Mac business suffered a 40 percent shipments decline, indicating that the premium monitor may not have sold well in this economy, despite it arriving with attractive features, such as a high refresh rate display, also known as ProMotion technology.

We also think that it would have severely undercut the Pro Display XDR with a more competitive price, and its mini-LED technology would have been a significant upgrade over the IPS LCD, though you would still get a smaller 27-inch panel instead of a 32-inch one. Since Young did not elaborate on his tweet, we cannot comment on Apple’s future plans, though the technology giant has been reported to be working on multiple displays featuring custom silicon, so it is likely that we will find out more in the coming months.
