Apple Updates iLife & iWork Apps with MacBook Pro Touch Bar Support-June 2024
Jun 5, 2025 11:45 PM

Apple has just updated its entire lineup of iWork and iLife apps for Mac, adding support for the new Touch Bar that made the cut with 2016 MacBook Pro.

New & Updated Apps From Apple Ensure Better Compatibility With Latest MacBook Pro Models with Touch Bar

The highlighting feature of the new 2016 MacBook Pro is without a doubt the shiny new Touch Bar that sits snuggly above the keyboard where the function keys used to be. In order to make use of that Touch Bar at all, developers must update their apps to take full advantage of the hardware. Today, just a short while after announcing the new MacBook Pros themselves, Apple is pushing out updates to its iWork and iLife suite for the Mac, bringing in support for Touch Bar.

The apps being updated today are as follows - Pages, Numbers, Keynote, GarageBand and iMovie. All of the updates are available to download immediatelyand we recommend everyone to do it right away since they pack bug fixes as well. Simply launch the Mac App Store on your computer and click on the 'Updates' tab where you will see the updates available for download. The updates are a littlehefty in size so you might want to exercise some patience while things are in progress.

Once you do get the MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, you will be able to do quite a lot of things with iWork and iLife. For example, in iMovie you can scrub through your projects on the fly as well as invoke other actions without having to fiddle around in different menus. Furthermore, GarageBand users can jump through tracks on the fly and take complete control of their work right from the Touch Bar. Same goes for Pages, Keynote, Numbers as well.

In order to use the latest updates to their full potential, you must have the latest MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, obviously. The notebook will start shipping in 2 to 3 weeks, according to Apple. Interestingly, Apple is offering a version of the MacBook Pro without the Touch Bar as well, featuring the same thin footprint as that of the 13-inch 2016 MacBook Pro. But if you really want to feel that you're living in the future then you might want to wave your credit card at Apple, as the new Pro laptops with Touch Bar start at $1499 for the base 13-inch model. Prices go north of $2000 once you start beefing the notebook up with more storage and powerful internals.
