ASRock Industrial has introduced new 4x4 BOX Mini PCs & motherboards featuring AMD's latest Ryzen 8040 "Hawk Point" APUs.

The AMD Ryzen 8040 "Hawk Point" APUs were expected to land inside Mini PCs as soon as they were announced and it looks like the first designs are already being unveiled. ASRock Industrial officially showcased its brand new designs which not only cover the Mini PC segment but they're also including Mini-ITX motherboards featuring the same chips.

The company has released both 4X4 BOX Mini PCs and 4X4 Mini-ITX 1U motherboards that come in two flavors, one with the AMD Ryzen 7 8840U and the other with the Ryzen 5 8640U. AMD's Ryzen 7 8840U features 8 cores, 16 threads, 24 MB of cache and a boost clock of up to 5.1 GHz with a TDP rating of up to 30W. The Ryzen 5 8640U features 6 cores, 12 threads, 22 MB of cache, a boost clock of up to 4.9 GHz and a maximum TDP rating of 30W.

In terms of GPU, the Ryzen 7 chip comes with a Radeon 780M iGPU with 12 compute units clocked at 2700 MHz while the Ryzen 5 chip comes with a Radeon 760M iGPU with 8 compute units clocked at 2600 MHz. Both chips are pretty much the same affair as their older Ryzen 7040U SKUs but have a faster NPU, offering up to 16 TOPS from the XDNA 1 engine and a combined 39 (CPU+GPU+NPU) AI TOPS.

Coming to the two designs, the ASRock Industrial 4X4 BOX Mini PCs come in a 117.5x110x49 mm chassis with active cooling technology. It includes support for two DDR5 SO-DIMM with up to 5600 MT/s speeds and 96 GB capacities.

For I/O, you get 2 USB 4, 1 USB 3.2 Gen2, 2 USB 2.0, 2 M.2 Key-M (Gen4x4 SSD), and a single M.2 Key E (WIFI6E) slot. There are two LAN ports including a 1 GbE & 2.5 GbE port while display outputs include 2 HDMI 1.4b and two DP 1.4a (Type-C) ports. Power is provided through a 19V adapter. The 4X4 motherboards are a very similar affair since they are the same units housed within the Mini PCs but you can set them up in your system of choice. The features include:

Expect AMD partners to release more Ryzen 8040 "Hawk Point" APU-powered Mini PCs, Mini-ITX motherboards and handhelds in the coming year as they become available around late Q1 2024.
