Apple will announce the new iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models later this year with a boatload of changes. It was initially rumored that the company would be looking to ditch the physical volume keys in favor of a solid-state solution. However, it was covered later on that the company will adopt the approach for the iPhone 16 Pro models. However, the Action Button was reported to replace the Mute Switch. Today, a detailed set of CAD files reveal valuable information about the iPhone 15 Pro's rumored Action Button and camera changes. Scroll down to see what you can expect later this year.
The latest CAD files highlight the Action Button replacing the Mute Switch and a bigger camera bump on the iPhone 15 Pro Max
It was previously reported that the iPhone 15 Pro models will use solid-state buttons instead of physical keys conjoined with additional Taptic Engines for haptic feedback. While the change is now expected to take place next year with the launch of the iPhone 16 Pro models, Apple will see fit to replace the Mute Switch with an Action Button. The detailed CAD files were shared by 9to5mac, revealing what the Action Button on iPhone 15 Pro would look like. The CAD files also reveal interesting details on the device's camera.
The CAD files were obtained from MFi-certified accessory makers, showcasing individual Volume Up and Volume Down buttons. This is an interesting detail as the Volume buttons were initially rumored to be a single elongated solid-state button. With the information at hand, we can presume that the company will move away from the solid-state solution this year, potentially due to technical issues. Check out the CAD images below for more details.
Above the Volume button on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, you will see the small Action Button instead of a Mute Switch. The button is more or less the same size as the Mute Switch. However, it is a wee bit circular compared to the cutout of the Mute Switch. Apple is switching to the Action Button to add more functionality to the mix. For instance, the Action Button on the iPhone 15 Pro would serve a purpose similar to how the Action Button functions on the Apple Watch Ultra. You can associate different commands and functions that Apple will allow.

As for the camera setup, the bump is considerably smaller compared to the initial CAD renders. Nonetheless, compared to the camera bump is still bigger than what you will find on the iPhone 14 Pro models. However, the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the bigger of the two models, is seen to have a slightly bigger camera bump than the smaller iPhone 15 Pro. This could be due to the inclusion of the Periscope lens, which was reported to be exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Additional details in the CAD files reveal slimmer bezels all around with more rounded corners compared to the current models. Furthermore, USB-C is also finally coming to the iPhone later this year. This is all there is to it, folks. We will share more details on the design as soon as further details are available.
