Developers Can Now Start Making And Testing Apps For The Apple Vision Pro, Thanks To visionOS SDK Release-February 2024
Feb 12, 2026 8:07 AM

The Apple Vision Prorelease is still several months away, and that is likely due to the lack of apps made for the AR headset. Fortunately, that is about to change, as the visionOS SDK has been announced by Apple, allowing developers to start making and testing apps for the new platform.

With the new visionOS simulator, developers will be able to interact with their apps while using the Apple Vision Pro

Apple issued a press release announcing the availability of the visionOS SDK for developers. Unlike the betas and SDKs for the company’s other operating systems like iOS and iPadOS, the visionOS SDK launched much later, so even if developers were able to ready their apps for the Apple Vision Pro, bringing it to visionOS would have been impossible without the software development kit.

“Starting today, Apple’s global community of developers will be able to create an entirely new class of spatial computing apps that take full advantage of the infinite canvas in Vision Pro and seamlessly blend digital content with the physical world to enable extraordinary new experiences. With the visionOS SDK, developers can utilize the powerful and unique capabilities of Vision Pro and visionOS to design brand-new app experiences across a variety of categories including productivity, design, gaming, and more.”

In addition to the visionOS SDK, Apple will be opening up developer labs in various regions to give developers hands-on experiences in testing their apps on Apple Vision Pro. Teams can also apply for developer kits starting in July. Using the visionOS simulator, the technology giant states that developers will be able to interact with their apps, which can make it simpler to do some basic troubleshooting work or view the different UI elements of the app.

Unfortunately, Apple has not given developers any pre-released models to play around with, so there is no news on how those units will function. To remind you, some features are currently not available on the Apple Vision Pro, which is why its official launch is said to happen a few months from now, as it will give developers more time to make and test their apps.
