If you're a fan of the new Apple TV 4 aerial views screen saver, then you can download it for your Mac as well, here's how.
Apple's latest and greatest set-top box, the Apple TV 4, is now available to pre-order on its website. The device is a huge upgrade over the previous-generation Apple TV as the new offering brings to the table features such as Siri, a dedicated App Store and whatnot. But apart from the usual suspects, Apple has also tossed in a new aerial views screen saver into the mix, which are quite eye-catching actually, and you can get the very same screen saver right on your OS X powered Mac today.
The aerial views screen saver is available as part of an open-source GitHub project, and installing it onto your Mac is a super easy task. First and foremost, head over to the GitHub page here and download the Aerials screen saver file. Once downloaded, right-click on it and click on 'Open,' otherwise OS X will toss you a warning saying that the file comes from an unknown developer and it can't be run / installed. Install the screen saver on your Mac, and simply right-click on your desktop, select 'Change Desktop Background,' then the 'Screen Saver' tab, and then of course, select the Aerial screen saver from the left hand side corner.
There's a second route you can take as well: simply download the Aerialscreen saver, and drop the Aerial.saver file in the~/Library/Screen Savers location in Finder. We highly recommend that you go with the first route, as it's the simplest one, since it does not involve navigating through folders. But still, the choice is yours, and the end result should give you an Apple TV 4 screen saver on your Mac.
The complete set of features of the screen saver is as follows:
Auto Load Latest Aerials:Aerials are loaded directly from Apple, so you're never out of date.
Play Different Aerial On Each Display:If you've got multiple monitors, this setting loads a different aerial for each of your displays.
Favorites:You can choose to only have certain aerials play.
Preview:Clicking on an aerial in the screen saver options previews that aerial for you.
Before you go ahead with the download, keep in mind that the Aerial screen saver requires you to be at least running OS X Mavericks or above, so make sure that you check that particular box before hitting the download button.
