You can now download watchOS 5 GM for Apple Watch Series 3, Series 2 and Series 1 devices if you are a registered developer with Apple.

watchOS 5 GM is Finally Available for Download with New Features and Improvements

The wait is finally over for Apple Watch users and you can go ahead and update to the watchOS 5 GM build if you are a registered developer with Apple. But before you do that, there are a few things that need to be out of the way.

First and foremost, it’s important to know that watchOS 5 won’t be available for original Apple Watch users. But it is available for those rocking a Series 3, Series 2 or Series 1 device. Apart from that, watchOS 5 GM is only available for registered developers with Apple. Also, you need to have iOS 12 GM installed on your device in order to get the GM build on your Apple Watch.

In order to download watchOS 5 GM over the air, first of all you have to make sure that your iPhone is running the latest iOS 12 GM. Once that is out of the way, place your Apple Watch on its magnetic charger and let the wearable charge beyond the 50% mark. Once that is done, keep the Apple Watch on charge. On your iPhone, launch the Watch app, navigate to General > Software Update. Wait a few seconds and the watchOS 5 GM update will show up. Tap on Download and Install to kick off the download process.

Remember one thing: the entire installation process is going to take a long time since everything happens over WiFi and Bluetooth. Therefore keep your iPhone and Apple Watch on charge during the entire ordeal so that everything goes as smoothly as possible.

Installing watchOS updates is a delicate little process which requires a lot of care. Therefore every measure to ensure smooth installation is highly recommended.

Once the installation is complete, you won’t lose your settings on your Apple Watch and you’ll end up on watchOS 5 GM. Sound like magic doesn’t it?
