Elon Musk is moving at a fairly brisk pace to realize his vision of a truth-seeking AI chatbot, aptly dubbed the TruthGPT, with the spare server capacity of the cloud hosting and database management service provider, Oracle, now being utilized for this purpose.

For those who might be unaware, Elon Musk recently registered a company in Nevada by the name X.AI Corp. The CEO of Tesla has also poached talent from DeepMind – a subsidiary of the tech giant Alphabet – and purchased around 10,000 GPUs from NVIDIA to train a Large Language Model (LLM) on the pattern of OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Back in April, Elon Musk had declared in an exclusive interview with Tucker Carlson that he was working on a “maximum truth-seeking” AI that tries to understand the nature of the universe and is, therefore, unlikely to “annihilate humans.”

Now, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) is reporting that Oracle’s spare server capacity was abruptly snapped up by a mystery buyer earlier this year, leaving many startups clamoring for alternatives. Bear in mind that servers – and, more specifically, GPU stacks – are hotcakes in the ongoing AI-related gold rush. As per the WSJ, that mystery buyer was Musk’s, X.AI Corp.

Do note that while ChatGPT required around 10,000 NVIDIA GPUs for training, an advanced version in sync with Elon Musk’s vision would likely require 3 to 5 times as many chips, as per an analysis by UBS.

Of course, with Twitter recently becoming a part of the X Corp. family, X.AI would likely have access to the vast troves of internal data that the global town square generates each day, allowing for a speedier training process. Nonetheless, this raw internal data from Twitter would have to be cleaned and pre-processed, requiring copious additional resources.
