Facebook Notification Dots May Soon Be History According To Reports – Company Is Testing Ways To Turn Them Off-March 2024

Facebook has red notification dots that show up whenever new content is available. However, they can be very annoying as you have to remove them one by one, otherwise you have a huge number of annoying tabs blinking at you from the bottom of the screen. Facebook iOS and Android seems to be testing another option; the ability to switch off these annoying little Facebook notification dots altogether.

Facebook Notification Dots - A Blessing Or Annoying?

According to TechCrunch these dots were initially for the purpose of driving increased usage but now they have realized that this wasn’t a very smart way to go about it. According to reports, the feature is being tested globally and is supposed to give users more control of how they receive notifications. You can choose what notifications you want to receive and what you don’t. You can turn them completely off too.

"People don’t necessarily want to see a notification on the badge [the in-app dots on tabs] if they’re already getting notifications in the jewel [the red counter on the Facebook app icon on your phone’s homescreen]" a Facebook spokesperson told TechCrunch.

The social media giant had apparently been thinking of adding a snooze notifications option, but then decided to go about testing this on/off toggle method instead. You may be one of the few users, who have received the Facebook notification dots setting. If not, then you may receive it if the company decides that this feature is beneficial. Go to your app > Menu tab > Settings & Privacy > Settings > Notifications > Notification Dots. If you have this feature, then you can try it out.

Customize the notifications that you want to receive and remove the ones you don’t want to see. Try out this test feature and let us know what you think about it and whether this addition will be something you would love or is it something that won't make any difference to you.
