Android smartphones are becoming more and more powerful as we move forward, and we are seeing manufacturers add all sorts of hardware enhancements that make very little sense. Just look at RAM. For instance, most modern smartphones top out at 12, and if you are looking for a gaming phone, you can go as high as 18, but a new rumor claims that future phones could have RAM as high as 24 gigs.
Android smartphones featuring 24 gigs of RAM make no sense considering how our phones perform perfectly fine even with 8 or 12 gigs of RAM
Based on information coming from the reliable Digital Chat Station, future Android smartphones could come out with up to 24 gigs of RAM, and yes, that is a lot of RAM. I mean, my PC only has 16 gigs, and it's running fine, so I don't see how a smartphone could need that much RAM.
What's interesting is that although the leaker has not mentioned any names, he does mention OGA. For those who don't know, this name represents the likes of OnePlus, OPPO, and Realme. Earlier today, another leak surfaced claiming that the OnePlus Ace 2 Pro is going to pack 24 gigs of LPDDR5X memory, which is just another confirmation that we might be seeing this soon.

What's funny is that almost all modern Android smartphones do not need to have this much RAM in the first place. Modern devices are really aggressive with killing apps in the background and managing the available RAM, and if your phone has 8 to 12 gigs of RAM, you are good to go. Even 16 and 18 gigs of RAM are considered overkill, so based on this, having 24 gigs of RAM in your phone makes zero sense, at least from a performance perspective.
Still, it is nothing new that Android manufacturers are doing their best to have more reasons to charge more for their devices, and this is just another way of getting there. Whether or not this is going to work is an entirely different story altogether, but you can be sure that brands like Samsung and Apple are not going to jump ship.
