Jumping from a 10MP camera on the Galaxy S23 Ultra to a 50MP one on the Galaxy S24 Ultra would already be perceived to deliver an image quality boost, but there are more details that Ice Universe has revealed publicly. Just a few moments after the tipster stated that the Galaxy S24 Ultra would ship with an ‘upgraded’ display, he shared on X that the 3x 50MP camera should sport a 1/2.52-inch sensor size, making it 40 percent larger than the 1/3.52-inch part present on the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

Nearly everyone who is remotely knowledgeable in smartphone photography knows that increasing the sensor’s physical size is beneficial, as it allows more light to be captured, reducing the amount of background noise while also producing more detail in low-light environments. The individual pixel size is 0.7μm, which is smaller than the 1.12µm number on the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

Still, Ice Universe has commented on his post that using the camera to capture 5x images using digital zoom will still allow the Galaxy S24 Ultra to maintain a higher image quality, and that might be due to the increase in the sensor size paired with the 50MP upgrade. As for the 10x zoom camera, the tipster notes that the maximum resolution is not expected to change, with Samsung rumored to stick with the same 10MP camera, but the exact specifications of this sensor are unknown.

We learned previously that even the 10x zoom camera will see image quality improvements, though sufficient information has not been provided as to what those improvements are.
