The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5 are launching sooner than expected, and hopefully, we will be getting two of the best foldable phones this year. While the Galaxy Z Flip 5 looks like a promising upgrade, all thanks to the new cover display, the Fold 5 is not looking so good because, honestly, we are not getting the upgrades we want to see, and a look at the specs sheet proves just that.
It's time we start getting concerned about the Galaxy Z Fold 5 because honestly, it is not looking like a good upgrade
Recently, we heard that the crease on the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is only 15% less than its predecessor, and while that might look like a significant upgrade, I don't think a lot of people are convinced. Plus, the phone still has the same design as it did when it first debuted. Sure, there are some improvements and refinements, but the new foldable from Samsung is nothing to write home about, which is concerning, considering how the device is going to cost upwards of $1,799.
The leaked specs sheet by Yogesh Brar sheds light on what the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is going to bring to the table, and honestly, it is nothing new, and this is where the concern is coming from, to begin with.

Now, the Galaxy Z Fold 5's internal display is 7.6-inch with QXGA+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. The cover display is 6.2-inch with HD+ resolution, the phone uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, 12 gigs of RAM. Storage starts from 256 gigs and goes all the way to 1TB. On the back, there is a 50-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a 12-megapixel telephoto camera, and there is also a 4-megapixel under-display camera and a 10-megapixel selfie camera. The phone will be powered by a 4,400 mAh battery and will support 25W fast charging.
Sadly, these specs are boilerplate for any flagship in 2023, and nothing here is new. There have been little to no improvements in the overall design element, and I am not asking Samsung to turn around and change the entire look and feel of the Galaxy Z Fold 5, but some improvement is much, much better than no improvement. I mean, yes, the new phone is supposed to come with an upgraded hinge that is supposed to provide better durability and a less noticeable crease, but is this really enough for a flagship phone in 2023, especially when the foldable space has so many other options available?
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 will be unveiled by the end of next month, and while it is going to be an exciting device, in its current state, there is a lot left to be desired, and I am really hoping Samsung has an ace up its sleeve.
