Google seems to have had a great year, as the company has released several impressive devices. The Pixel 8 series went official earlier this month, and both devices are impressive, to say the least. The Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet also went official this year, but so far, it appears that Google is taking a page out of Apple's book with its pricing, where the company is not offering any low-end device.
Making a low-end Pixel device would mean a lot of compromises, as Google confirms there are no plans to do so
Sure, the 'a' series Pixel devices are good for those looking for something affordable, but they are, by no means, low-end devices. I mean, the Google Pixel 8a that we recently spotted is most likely packing a Tensor G3 and the same cameras, so that should tell you something.
Now, Google's Vice President of Mobile Business, Mr. Nanda Ramachandran, has discussed why the company is not planning to release a low-cost Pixel smartphone. In justification, Ramachandran has talked about how making an affordable Pixel device would lead to "too many compromises," especially when you look at the fact that Google has been focusing on AI, camera, and security frameworks. The point makes sense because going for an affordable Pixel would compromise the brand name and what it stands for.
Now, the good news here is that this does not mean that Google is discontinuing its Pixel a devices. Those will still be available in the market, and we can see the Pixel 8a coming out pretty soon. This means that the search engine giant believes that the Pixel name now stands for something, and going for lower-end devices within the family would not serve the name well at all.
Thankfully, if you are not keen on joining the Google Pixel family, there are still some excellent affordable smartphones in the market from various brands such as Samsung and even OnePlus under its Nord branding, and they are not going anywhere because there happens to be a massive market for these phones. So, I can assure you that even if you are not going to get a cheaper Pixel phone, there will always be an option available.
