Despite being Google's first foldable, the Pixel Fold is actually a promising device, and while it might not have the latest and greatest in terms of specs, it does have what several other foldable phones lack - and that is the support that Google shows for its Pixel devices. Now, we have learned that the foldable might be getting Dual Screen mode that will let you use both displays when taking pictures, a feature we have seen on several foldable phones in the past.
Dual Screen features on the Google Pixel Fold need to expand so users can have a better experience
The Google Pixel Fold already has a Dual Screen feature called Interpreter Mode, which is pretty neat if you actually get the chance to use it, but it appears that the company wants to expand on it with the ability to use both displays when taking pictures. This information was obtained after an APK teardown of the latest Pixel Camera version.
In the Pixel Camera v9.2, there were some strings indicating the new feature that would be coming to Pixel Fold. The feature is currently calledsaturn, but I am sure this will not be the final name as Google has a habit of changing these.
<string name="saturn_available_desc">Use the rear screen to show your subject a preview of the image.</string>
<string name="saturn_title">Dual Screen</string>
<string name="saturn_unavailable_desc">To use dual screen switch to photo and unfold.</string>
<string name="saturn_unavailable_due_to_battery_saver_desc">To preview Dual Screen, turn off Battery Saver mode</string>
<string name="saturn_unavailable_due_to_battery_saver_title">Turn off Battery Saver?</string>
<string name="saturn_unavailable_due_to_thermal_throttling_desc">Device too warm for Dual Screen</string>
<string name="saturn_unavailable_title">Dual Screen not available</string>
Looking at the new strings, it is obvious that these would allow the Pixel Fold users to use both screens to display the preview of the subject while the photographer takes the photo using the main display. This feature is already available on the recently launched OnePlus Open and Galaxy Z Fold 5, and it will now make its way to the latest Pixel foldable.
It is also worth noting that to make sure the entire process works as smoothly as possible, there are a few measures. For instance, the Dual Screen feature will not work when you are using the Pixel Fold with the battery save mode turned on. If your phone is running hot, it will not work; it should not really come as a surprise, as every company needs to ensure that their device does not experience a crash because of temperature issues.
Honestly, I really want to get my hands on the Pixel Fold or any other foldable, for that matter. However, given the lifestyle, I do not think that a foldable phone is a good choice for me. I am glad Google is actively adding features that would make its foldable much more viable instead of just giving up on it altogether. It is worth noting that, at the moment, the feature is not working, but we will keep you posted as soon as it becomes available and starts working.
