How to Install NMF26F Android 7.1.1 on Nexus 6P and 5X Using Factory Images and OTA Files-April 2024

After a brief period of testing Android 7.1.1 developer preview, Google has now started to roll out the latest update to Nexus and Pixel devices. We have already shared with you steps to manually update your Google Pixel and Pixel XL phones. However, today's update is more important and exciting for Nexus users since it brings some Pixel-exclusive features to Google's Nexus phones. Follow this guide to installNMF26F Android 7.1.1 Nougat on Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X using factory images and OTA files.

Prerequisites toflashNMF26F Android 7.1.1 on Nexus 6P, 5X

Create a backupof all important data on your Nexus phone.Download and installUSB driversfor Nexus onyour computer.TheNexusbootloadershould be unlocked.You should have AndroidSDKinstalled on your PC.Enable USB debugging option by pressingMenu>Settings>Applications. Navigate and tap onDeveloper Optionsto ensure thatUSB Debuggingis enabled.Ensure that your Nexus phone carries more than 70% of charge.

1- Howtoflash NMF26F for Nexus 6P, 5X using factory images

Required files:Download NMF26F Android 7.1.1 factory images for your Nexus 6P OR Nexus 5X fromhere.

Connect your Nexus phone to your PC using a USB cable and turn it off.Now, start the device in Fastboot mode: turn onthe phone while pressing and holding theVolume Down+Powerkeysuntil you see the Fastboot menu and the START text on top.Extract the downloaded Nougat file anywhere onyour PC. Go to_NMF26F_folder and copy/paste all the files to your Fastboot directory (which often is the platform-tools folder inside the Android SDK directory).This step involves flashing the factory image to yourNexus phone. Open the folder containing the factory image downloaded and extracted. In the address bar, typecmdand type the command written below and press enter.Windows:Runflash-all.batOnMac:Runflash-all.shusingTerminalLinux:Runflash-all.sh

Once the script finishes running, your Nexus will reboot. First boot may take up to 5 minutes, so don't be worried if it takes your device longer than usual to boot up. Once it's back up, your Nexus 6P or Nexus 5X will be running the latestversion of Android 7.1.1 Nougat.For more details, visit the officialsite.

2- Update Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X to NMF26F Android 7.1.1 using OTA files

Required Files:Downloadthe correct NMF26F Android 7.1.1 Nougat OTA file for your Nexus on your computer (today's release doesn't support Verizon Nexus 6P). Copy and paste the downloaded zip file to your ADB / Fastboot directory, whichshould be in your Android SDK directory. Rename it to nougat.zip for easier reference.

Turn off your Nexus device.Enter in the Bootloader mode: turn your phone on while pressing and holding theVolume DownandPowerbuttons until you see the Fastboot menu.Now, we will enterthe Recovery mode: Press theVolume Downkeyto scroll down totheRecovery modeand select it using thePowerkey. Your Nexus will now reboot and enterthe recovery mode.When in the Recovery mode, you will see the Android logo with an exclamation mark. Hold thePowerbutton and pressVolume Uponce to get the menu. Inthis menu, you will have to navigate using the volumekeysand select any choice using the Power key.Locateand select theApply update from ADB.Now, connect your phone to your computerusing the USB cable.On your computer, goandroid-sdk-windows\platform-toolsdirectory. This is the directory where wesaved the Android 7.1.1 Nougat zip file.Open Command Prompt:Shift+Right-click>Open Command Prompt.Type in the following command and pressEnter.adbsideloadnougat.zipOnce the installation is finished, navigate toand selectReboot system now.Your Nexus 6P or 5X will now reboot, but it will take over 5 to 7 minutes.
