AMD CES 2023 keynote announcements

Image used with permission by copyright holderThere were a lot of announcements from CES for AMD, not all of which were actually mentioned in the keynote itself.

One of the most exciting announcements was the continuation of 3D V-cache chips. AMD is bringing the technology to three new chips, no longer limiting it to just a single CPU. The Ryzen 9 7950X3D is the flagship CPU, sporting 16 cores, a 5.7GHz clock speed, 144MB of cache, and a claim of 24% faster game performance than Intel’s best. The Ryzen 9 7900X3D and Ryzen 7 7800X3D round out the lineup of 3D V-cache chips.

As expected, AMD has announced its new Ryzen 7000 mobile chips for laptops as well. There’s a huge number of new chips, going up to 16 cores. Some of the chips use older CPU architecture, while the flagship ones, the 7045 and 7040 series, are built on Zen 4. It’s a pretty complicated chart of chips, but the good news is that some of them have RDNA 3-based integrated graphics onboard.

AMD also announced some new non-X desktop processors as part of its Ryzen 7000 line. These are just 65-watt parts this time around, and they’re a lot more affordable too, which should help them sell a bit better.

Lastly, AMD announced its new mobile GPUs. The AMD RX 7600M XT is the flagship, which AMD claims can beat a desktop RTX 3060.
