How to Schedule a Restart for Windows Update on Windows 11 Systems-January 2024
Jan 31, 2026 5:41 AM

One of the most annoying things that Windows came with was an update at the wrong time. It has happened to me many times that I urgently needed to use my computer, but then Windows decided to update, and I was stuck for hours at a time on the update screen. Windows 11, however, allows you to schedule the Restart required for an update and even check the time required for the update to happen. This tutorial will show you how to schedule a restart for Windows update on Windows 11 systems.

Restart for Windows Update on Windows 11

Whenever an update is available, and a restart is required, you will see the following icon visible on the taskbar.

Schedule Restart for Windows Update

This icon will take you to the Settings app and allow you to restart your system and even schedule a restart. Just follow the steps below:

Step-1: Click on the update icon on the taskbar. This will take you to the Windows Update section in the Settings app.

Step-2: Click on the Schedule the restart option under Restart required.

Step-3: Turn the toggle switch On under Schedule a time.

Once you turn the toggle switch On, the greyed-out options will become available for further modification.

Step-4: Click on the times available under Pick a time to edit the time.

Step-5: In the Pick, a day drop-down menu, select the day you want the update to happen.

Step-6: If you go back in the Windows Update window (click on the back arrow at the top left corner of the screen to go back); you will see that the Restart has been scheduled as shown below:

After this, the Schedule will happen automatically at the desired time and date. I hope this helps; let us know in the comments below.
