May 12, 2025 5:31 AM

Gmail is one of the email apps that almost everyone uses for all the right reasons. The app is simple and super easy to understand. The interface is neat and clean, you do not get lost in finding your emails, and the search itself is super intuitive. Aside from receiving emails, I also regularly send emails using the app on my phone. Recently, I discovered that you could actually send a secure email in Gmail, which I found impressive.

But why would you want to send a secure email in Gmail to begin with? Well, there are a lot of reasons behind that. For instance, if I am sharing sensitive documents with someone and want to be sure that someone random does not get access to the email, I would want the email to be secure. That is why when certain banks send you your bank statements, the statements are often password protected with a password texted to you.

Gmail works on a similar principle and does have some additional benefits. For instance, sending an email in confidential mode will prevent the readers from forwarding, copying, printing, or downloading the email. So, if you want an added layer of security, it is there. Let's have a look at how you can send a secure email in Gmail. It is very easy.

How to use Confidential Mode to send a secure email in Gmail

Now, if you are looking to send a secure email in Gmail, the process is simple and will not confuse you. However, by default, the Confidential Mode is turned off, so you will have to turn it off, make some adjustments, and you are good to go.

Step 1:On your iPhone or Android, open theGmail app.

Step 2:Press theComposebutton on the bottom right corner.

Step 3:Now press thethree-dotbutton on the top right corner and chooseConfidential mode.

Step 4:Make adjustments to the settings you want and hitSave.

That's it, folks. You will now be able to send secure emails using Gmail. You can turn the feature off whenever you want and even revoke access within the app by simply going to the email you sent in the Sentfolder and revoking the access.
