To a select number of users, Facebook has silently rolled out a new feature. If you're someone who is seeing a mysterious Facebook rocket icon on the menu, located at the bottom of the iOS app and at top of Android, it means that there is a second News Feed available. The second News Feed has a devised purpose and resembles that of Snapchat's Discover tab. Let's dive in to see some more details on the Facebook rocket icon and what its main purpose is.

Facebook Rocket Icon Appearing On Select User's Mobile App

If you're one of those chosen by Facebook for the new rocket button, do take note that there is a second News Feed available. The second News Feed contains videos, stories as well as other content that the company believes the user will potentially be interested in. The content is derived and displayed on the second News Feed from Pages that a user has not Liked at the moment.

As to who operates it, the company's specifically designed algorithms will curate the content based on a user's previous interests and Likes. The new option available is best for finding local content merged with other things that might interest users.

The new News Feed is also pretty similar to Instagram's Explore tab that collects posts and content that might be of interest to a user. The Facebook rocket feature on iOS is a little different. The feed is labelled as 'Explore' and looks different than what you will see in its Android counterpart. The look is sleek and gives out that Magazine vibe. The content is placed side by side with an appropriate amount of space in between them.

This is not the first time that the company has ought to introduce a unique News Feed for a selected number of users. This makes sense as a new feature first has to be tested among a smaller group rather than rolling it out on a global scale.

Facebook has been experimenting with its News Feed for quite a while now and to do that, the company has been making tweaks in its algorithms. While the final decision will rest until the company has not rolled out the new Facebook rocket feature globally, it is still a welcome addition.

This is it for now, folks. What are your thoughts on the new Facebook rocket feature popping out on smartphones of a small group of users? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
