Instagram And Facebook Messenger Chats Are Once Again Going To Be Separate
Instagram And Facebook Messenger Chats Are Once Again Going To Be Separate-November 2024
Nov 21, 2025 4:16 AM

Meta has decided that the company is finally going to bring an end to the Facebook Messenger and Instagram integration, which means that the cross-app chats are not going to be working on these platforms.

Instagram and Facebook Messenger are about to lose the cross-app chat functionality, but it really isn't a big deal

This feature has been around since 2020, and that is when Meta decided to connect both Facebook Messenger and Instagram with each other, which allowed users to chat cross-platform. At that time, the company wanted to deliver an experience that was better for the users, but it appears that the company is no longer in favor of this feature as it has decided to end it.

Based on the information from a new support page, the feature is ending in the middle of this month. Here are the changes that will take place once this goes through:

You won’t be able to start new conversations or calls with Facebook accounts from Instagram.Any existing chats that you’ve had with Facebook accounts will become read-only. This means that you and others can’t send new messages in these chats.Facebook accounts won’t be able to viewyour Activity Statusor whether you’ve seen a message.Any existing chats you’ve had with Facebook accounts won’t move to your inbox on Facebook or Messenger.

At the moment, Meta has not given any reasoning as to why this change is taking place in the first place for both Facebook Messenger and Instagram, but honestly, I know a lot of people who don't even use the feature, so I think that you will not be running into any major issues with the feature not being available.

If, however, Meta does deliver a statement as to why this change is being made, we will be sure to let you know. Meanwhile, you can enjoy the cross-app chat until the middle of the month.
