The first detailed benchmarks of Intel's Core i3-8350K Coffee Leak processor have just leaked out. The Intel Core i3-8350K will be the first Core i3 branded chip to feature a quad core design that is going to deliver faster performance in multi-tasking compared to last generation i3 chips.
Intel Core i3-8350K Quad Core Coffee Lake CPU Performance Leaked - Faster in Single Threading, Almost on par in Multi-Threading Compared To Previous Generation Flagship i7
Intel announced their 8th generation processors a few days ago. The lineup revealed that Intel's 8th generation family will be a mixture of different architectures. These will include Kaby Lake, Coffee Lake and Cannonlake chips. So we will be looking at 14nm+, 14nm++ and 10nm chips, all within a single family. The desktop processors will be based on the Coffee Lake architecture and first details were posted weeks ago over here.
While we got to see the performance of the flagship Core i7-8700K chip that rocks 6 cores and 12 threads, budget users would be more interested in the upcoming Core i3 processors. From the looks of it, the Core i3 series in the Coffee Lake desktop family will deliver great performance in single and multi-threading workloads. The improvements come from two things, a better process that allows for higher clock speeds, a fine tuned architecture that is built on the foundation of Kaby Lake and lastly, increase in core count.
Intel Core i3-8350K – A Quad Core i3 Processor With 4 GHz Clock Speed
The Intel Core i3-8350K will be the only Core i3 chip in the 8th Gen family that enables overclocking support. Intel’s 8th Gen Core i3 family is also the first to feature 4 cores which will be a great deal for budget builders. The Intel Core i3 8350K comes with 4 cores and 4 threads that are clocked at 4.0 GHz. The chip features 8 MB of cache and will feature a TDP of 95W.
There’s also the Intel Core i3-8100 which is a 4 core, non-multi threaded SKU. This chip has a lower clock speed of 65W and features a clock speed of 3.6 GHz. There’s a total of 6 MB of L3 cache on the processor itself which confirms the exclusion of multi-threading. The Intel Core i3 chips will not feature boost clocks but they will have a more stable base clock speed and we can expect prices of the chips to be in the sub-$200 US range.
