iOS 8.2 Jailbreak Could Be Here By The End Of March
iOS 8.2 Jailbreak Could Be Here By The End Of March-June 2024
Jun 27, 2025 7:57 PM

The iOS jailbreak scene has enjoyed a fruitful few months since the initial public release of iOS 8 back in September. A number of China-based exploit teams, namely Pangu, PP and TaiG, have all successfully jailbroken the software at one stage or another, which has enabled every release prior to iOS 8.1.3 to be jailbroken. Here, we look at what's going on with current and future versions,as well as surveying the possibility that an iOS 8.2 jailbreak could be in our midst before the month's end.

iOS 8.1 Jailbreak

iOS 8.1.3

Up until iOS 8.1.3's arrival, all preceding versions of iOS 8 could be jailbroken untethered, but since Apple patched the exploits with iOS 8.1.3, it's now, once again, a bit of a closed book.

If you are running iOS 8.1.2 or earlier and would like to jailbreak, then please DO NOT update your software. Instead, point your browser to taig.com and download version 1.2.1 of the TaiG tool.

iOS 8.2

Through the first two betas of iOS 8.2, a jailbreak is possible, and so if, by some remote possibility, you are running iOS 8.2 beta 1 or beta 2, you can achieve an untethered break by means of TaiG. Simply head on over to taig.com and grab version 1.3.0 of the TaiG tool to get started.

Although the TaiG team has revealed very little since iOS 8.2's arrival, seasoned security expert Stefan Esser, also known as i0n1c, has noted that the Chinese groupcould be waiting until the 2015 Mobile Security Summit before releasing its latest jailbreak. Since said event will be held on March 27th, the jailbreakcould be less than a couple of weeks away, and with a number of the jailbreaking elite in attendance, notably P0sixninja (Greenpois0n) and Comex (JailbreakMe, Evasi0n), it would be a very appropriate venue for such an announcement.

We will have the step-by-step guides for any jailbreak tools that do arrive in the near future, so stay tuned to our coverage for more.

iOS 8.3

Still very much in beta, iOS 8.3 is the next in line for release, and since it is expected to arrive relatively soon, it is also possible thatiOS 8.2 is skipped altogether. Suffice to say, the current iOS 8.3 betas are not jailbreakable, and so if you happen to take advantage of the Beta Seed Program and install iOS 8.3 on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, you will not be able to jailbreak as yet.

In the run-up to iOS 8.2, TaiG did suggest that it had the exploits in place to roll out an immediate jailbreak once the software was officially seeded to the end user, but Apple appeared to throw a curve-ball by patching it before an iOS 8.2 jailbreak could occur. We're still patiently awaiting an update, and are keeping the faith in TaiG et al that an iOS 8.2 / 8.3 jailbreakdoes appear on the 27th or otherwise, but as mentioned earlier, sticking with pre-iOS 8.1.3 or iOS 8.2 beta 1 / 2 is the best way to go for the time being.

With so many great tweak available through the Cydia Store, let's hope it's just a matter of time, and we'll keep you informed should any other revelations occur in the wonderful world of iOS jailbreaks.

Will you be jailbreaking on iOS 8.2 and beyond, should the possibility arise? Share your comments with us below!
