iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max To Feature Solid State Buttons That Work Exceptionally Well With Gloves And Cases-November 2024
Nov 1, 2025 12:04 PM

One of the exclusive features arriving to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max is the existence of solid state buttons. While some readers might be pessimistic over their functionality, one rumor claims that these buttons will work ‘very well’ with gloves and cases, assuming those accessories have been designed correctly.

There will be a sensitivity toggle for users to adjust, allowing the solid state buttons to work according to their requirements with cases and gloves

A follow-up to the rumor that mentioned the solid state buttons would feature a micro-processorthat retained some functionality even after the iPhone’s battery depleted comes from MacRumors Forums member anonymous-A.S. Apparently, there will be a sensitivity toggle, allowing users to adjust it according to their needs when cases are strapped on or when gloves are worn. He does state that it will be up to third-party manufacturers to determine the quality of these accessories.

“Forgot to mention he does know those capacitive buttons will work very well with gloves and cases if designed correctly, as there’s a sensitivity toggle.”

Back in late February, tipster ShrimpApplePro stated in a tweet that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max would have solid state buttons that would work perfectly with a case attached, so on this occasion, both rumors are consistent in their information. In total, we should see Apple adding three Taptic Engines to the more premium models. The Taptic Engine debuted in the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus and provided haptic feedback that mimicked a click.

We can firmly say that compared to physical buttons, solid state ones expected to be found on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max should deliver more durability given that there is no switch that needs to be pressed over and over again. Moving parts in any device have a finite life span, and it is also challenging to build water-resistant gaskets around those areas. With solid state buttons, Apple could eliminate this problem while also offering more customizations to the user.

Unfortunately, one drawback to this approach is that since Apple is adding this feature for the first time, the three Taptic Engines should increase the cost for the company, giving it more of a reason to introduce a price hiketo the ‘Pro’ models. Then again, the prices remained consistent for four years, so it was only a matter of time before Apple charged its customers more, with or without those solid state buttons.
