M3 iPad Pro to Feature OLED Display, Expected to Launch Next Year
M3 iPad Pro to Feature OLED Display, Expected to Launch Next Year-February 2024
Feb 12, 2026 7:51 AM

Apple unveiled the M2 chip last year with the launch of the redesigned MacBook Air. The chip comes with enhanced computational and graphical performance along with improved efficiency for better battery life. The M2 chip is also available on the iPad Pro. While the chips are plenty powerful, the company is expected to announce its new M3 processors next year with the release of an updated iPad Pro and MacBook Air models. A new rumor suggests that the M3 iPad Pro will feature an OLED display while the iPad mini 7 will come with an LCD panel. Scroll down to read more details on the subject.

M3 iPad Pro to gain OLED display technology, allowing enhanced color accuracy and better battery life

Apple plans to announce the new iPad Pro models with an M3 chip next year in Spring. The M3 chip will be based on TSMC's 3nm architecture which will further extend the capabilities of the iPad Pro. With the 3nm processor, the iPad Pro will be significantly faster than the current generation models. However, a leaker claims on Twitter that the M3 iPad Pro will feature an OLED panel for better colors and sharper images. Earlier reports suggested that both 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models would adopt OLED display technology.

Apple's M3 chip will not be exclusive to the iPad Pro lineup. The company will see fit to incorporate the chip in the upgraded MacBook Air models. It was previously reported that Apple is working on a new 15.5-inch MacBook Air model which is expected to launch at WWDC 2023 event on June 5. It was also reported that the machine will be powered by Apple's M2 chip instead of an M3 chip.

Apple iPad Pro with M3 chip to feature OLED display

As for the launch, the M3 iPad Pro is expected to be announced in the first half of 2024. What this means is that the company could either announce the M3 iPad Pro with an OLED panel at its Spring event or next year's WWDC event. With the OLED panel onboard, the iPad Pro could become one of the best video and photo editing tablets on the market. With the processing power of the M3 chip fabricated on TSMC's 3nm process, the iPad Pro would gain desktop-class performance.

Currently. the 12.9-inch iPad Pro features a mini-LED panel that delivers better brightness and deeper blacks compared to LCD panels. OLED panels would aid in better battery life as it consumes less power with enhanced color accuracy and deeper blacks. Take note that the final word rests with Apple so be sure to take the news with a grain of salt. The leaker also claims that the iPad mini 7 will feature an LCD panel.
