Microsoft Says Windows 10 1809 Is Ready for “Broad Deployment” Just Weeks Before It Releases v1903
Microsoft Says Windows 10 1809 Is Ready for “Broad Deployment” Just Weeks Before It Releases v1903-June 2024
Jun 27, 2025 11:27 AM

Originally released to the public in October, the Windows 10 October 2018 Update has been one of the worst updates sent to the operating system. As reported last night, version 1809 has been adopted by less than 30% of Windows 10 devices with many believing that half of Windows 10 users will probably never update to this particular version. Now that a new version is almost here, Microsoft has announcedthat it is pushing Windows 10 version 1809 into full deployment.

"Based on the data and the feedback we’ve received from consumers, OEMs, ISVs, partners, and commercial customers, Windows 10, version 1809 has transitioned to broad deployment," the Windows makerannounced today.

"With this, theWindows 10 release informationpage will now reflect Semi-Annual Channel (SAC) for version 1809. We will continue to communicate for future releases the transition from targeted to broad deployment status."

Windows 10 1809 is ready for businesses, but is it?

The Windows maker started the automatic phased rollout of Windows 10 October 2018 Update earlier this year. However, it is now in broad deployment. The timing of the latest announcement is questionable since even the latest cumulative updates sent out to 1809 are plagued with known issues. It appears the company may be moving faster to just get done with Windows 10 version 1809 before it can move on to the hopefully greener times being introduced by version 1903.

Microsoft is done developing Windows 10 April 2019 Update with the last Preview Build expected to be the release candidate. While the company may want to close the 1809 chapter as it gets ready for the RTM announcement, users could end up dealing with some bugs, and with a new update in sight, it's probably better to wait for 1903.
