Netflix Basic With Ads Now Offers 1080p Quality Instead Of The 720p That Was Initially Available
Netflix Basic With Ads Now Offers 1080p Quality Instead Of The 720p That Was Initially Available-February 2024
Feb 12, 2026 1:25 AM

After a lot of rumors, Netflix Basic with Ads finally launched last November and was immediately met with criticism. Sure, it was not as costly as the basic variant, but the fact that the plan was limited to 720p did not sit well with a lot of users. There was a time when 720p would have been considered HD. In 2022, people did not want the streaming service to provide such a resolution, considering that most of our devices are running at 1080p, and even 4K, if we are talking TVs. Well, that changes as the platform has decided to make some amends.

Netflix Basic with Ads finally becomes a lot more attractive with a 1080p upgrade and the ability to stream at two devices simultaneously

During the Q1 2023 earnings report, Netflix finally mentioned that it is going to bump up the video quality of the Basic with Ads tier to 1080p. Thankfully, you will not be asked to pay an additional charge as this will be a free upgrade. Not just that, users will also be able to stream content on two devices simultaneously as opposed to just one.

Customers in Canada and Spain can already see the resolution bump. As for the rest of the market, you are going to have to wait for the month to end, which is not really something that should be an issue.

Interestingly, Netflix has also revealed that the Basic with Ads plan has managed to bring in more revenue than its Standard plan, which costs $15.49, which is what most people I know are also using. In the report, the company has also mentioned that the DVD delivery service is also shutting down, marking an end of an era for something that actually put Netflix on the map in the first place.

For those interested in Netflix Basic with Ads, you can go ahead and subscribe to the plan in Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Spain, the UK, and the US. You will only have to pay $6.99 a month and enjoy all the content as long as you are not bothered by ads.
