Nintendo Has Plans To Release Two Or Three Mobile Games A Year-April 2024
Apr 30, 2025 3:48 PM

Nintendo has announced that it has plans to launch two or three mobile games every year. The news came a day after the company reported its first quarterly profit in a year as its division for mobile games started to make revenue. However, investors were disappointed due to high hopes from games like Super Mario Run. The investors thought that the game could potentially offset the reduced earnings in the company's console sector. Let's dive in to see some more details on what Nintendo plans to boost its revenue.

Nintendo Plans To Release Two Or Three Mobile Games A Year?

Following the news, Nintendo's share was dropped by 4 percent on Wednesday. Super Mario Run definitely had an impact on total earnings of the company. As the game was launched in December of last year, it aided the third quarter in mobile gaming to reach 7 billion yen or $61 million. Currently, the Super Mario Run has soaked 78 million downloads. However, as reported by the company, less than 10 percent of users have contributed in actually paying the additional $9.99 fee to unlock the remaining features and levels. Nintendo president, Tatsumi Kimishima said that the company will look into ways to make the game longer for those who have paid the one-off $9.99 fee and for those who are willing to pay.

"We are taking a number of steps to ensurethat Super Mario Run can be enjoyed for a longtime, both by those who have already made the fullpurchase and by those who have downloaded theapplication but not yet made the purchase. We arealso taking steps in-game to raise the ratio ofpurchases among consumers downloading theapplication for the first time."

With that said, Nintendo yesterday rolled out an update for the Super Mario Run, adding a handful of bug fixes for a smoother gaming experience along with a few features that includes an "Easy Mode". As for the Fire Emblem Heroes, the game is set to release tomorrow on iOS and it will be a free to play title. The game will require users to have an active internet connection if you want to play. Nintendo has abundant plans for mobile games and we will see that in the near future.

This is it for now, folks. What are your thoughts on Nintendo's plans to release two or three mobile games every year? Do you think it will revive the company in terms of revenue? Share your thoughts in the comments.
