Noctua NH-D15S and the Overclocked i7 6800k
Noctua NH-D15S and the Overclocked i7 6800k-February 2024
Feb 12, 2026 11:39 PM

The Noctua NH-D15S is a redesign of the popular and effective NH-D15, but adapted for much better x99 support. They did this by shifting the heatsink stack to being offset rather than centered over the CPU mount. This gives room for the GPU to be installed on the top PCI-e slot where the NH-D15 would block that slot. In an effort to increase memory compatibility Noctua is only including one fan to allow clearance for even the tallest memory heatsinks. That begs the question, can the single fan Noctua NH-D15S handle the flaming hot i7 6800k of ours? We wanted to know too.

In the video we take a loot at the cooler and put it through it's paces at Stock XMP, OC XMP, and Manual Overclock settings to see if the NH-D15S can keep our chip cool enough or do we need to stick to water cooling for this 140+TDP Hexacore processor.
