Origin PC releases the dragon — the EON17-SLX is a hardware monster-February 2024

The EON17-SLX is a customizable gaming laptop with options that include a desktop GTX 980 graphics card or a pair of 980Ms for SLI grandeur.

Nvidia sparked a new hardware craze by putting their GTX 980 into laptops back in September this year. Several big players in the gaming laptop market were on the train, including Asus and MSI. The high-powered laptops included hardware component goodies such as overclocked graphics and unlocked mobile Intel i7 and i5 Skylake desktop processors. Origin’s new beast is no different.

In the near future, that upper option is said to be available at an upgraded 64 GB of 2400 MHz RAM. This comes with a 17.3-inch IPS display at 1080p equipped with Nvidia G-Sync technology to ensure multi-display compatibility. With this configuration, you can have up to three displays connected to your laptop at once. Additionally, the laptop can house two 2.5-inch drives, depending on your preferences. On top of that, it can be configured with RAID 0 type arrays, which increase read and write speeds. It is properly matched by a concurrent USB 3.1 Type-C port that allows the EON17-SLX to both charge and be charged by other devices with the same USB 3.1 Type-C setup. This latest plug design features a double-sided connection, preventing mistaken attempts to put it in upside-down.

For your internet needs, there’s a dual-gigabit LAN provided by a Dual Killer E2400 controller. When you’re on the go, two different wireless cards have you covered: a Killer Wireless AC 1535 dual-band and Bluetooth card, as well as an Intel PRO Wireless AC 7265 with a Bluetooth card.

Just don’t expect them to break the laws of physics or anything … you can’t have four Titan GTX GPUs installed.

In terms of aesthetics, there’s a backlit multi-color keyboard and trackpad. You can also choose between four exterior non-sensical metallic colors for the laptop: Eternal Pink, Sabot Grey, Atmos Blue, and Evolve Green.

If you don’t mind plunking down some serious cash, the EON17-SLX gaming laptop is available now for $2,000.
