How to Paint Your Walls in Photoshop

Photoshop can alter images in almost every way imaginable. As capable as it is though, there are times when the changes needed are rather mundane in nature.Take, for example, the need to change the color of a wall in an image. While it might not be a common alteration, it’s a handy arrow to keep in your quiver of skills. And when it does, you’re going to wish you knew how best to get the job done.

Throughout the 13-minute video, Nace walks through the steps needed to get the job done. For his specific method, Nace relies on the pen tool to select the area of the wall you wish to “paint” over. Once the selections are made, Nace explains how other selection tools and layer masks can be used to cut out unwanted elements in the image — a mirror in his example image.

Once the walls are selected, it’s on to changing the colors. There are a few ways to do this, but Nace breaks down the most simple method, which involves using a Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer. This method makes it easy to simply slide through a palette of colors.

It’s a rather niche editing skill, but one that could prove useful — especially if you’re in real estate photography and a client would like to see what a specific color would look like. Watch the tutorial and head on over to Phlearn’s YouTube Channel to learn more Photoshop tips and tricks.
