Samsung made astrophotography available to several of its devices recently, starting with the Galaxy S23, then the Galaxy S22, and promised that it would be coming to flagships of the past as well. Today, the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy Z Fold 4 also get the same feature thanks to the latest April 2023 security update and the Expert RAW update.

If you want to use the astrophotography feature on your Galaxy S21 or Galaxy Z Fold 4, you will have to be updated to the latest April 2023 security update and also have the latest Expert RAW update installed on your phone before you go ahead and use the feature.

Now, before you pick up your Galaxy S21 and start tinkering with the feature, you have to understand that this is not the same feature as space zoom. Astrophotography is a different feature, with its functionality baked into the Expert RAW app. In order to take the picture the right way, you will also need a tripod since it does use a long exposure, and it is very difficult to hold your phone steadily for extended periods.

So, how do you take a shot of the sky using the astrophotography feature? Well, the process is super-simple, but I will still tell you what needs to be done. Open the Cameraapp on your Galaxy S21 or the Galaxy Z Fold 4. TapMoreon the right side, and selectExpert RAW,now on the top right corner, tap theconstellationbutton, make your adjuments, and you are ready to go. Alternatively, if you have the Expert RAW app installed separately, you have to go ahead and use the feature from there instead of going to the camera app and then going to Expert RAW.

Honestly, while I have only used this feature a handful of times, it somewhat gets the job done. I would not suggest that you expect pictures that are similar to what you would get from a full-fledged camera, but it is still pretty good, considering that the shot is coming from a smartphone.
