Samsung Might Not Abandon Google Search For Bing, As Company Suspends Internal Review Regarding The Change-February 2024
Feb 12, 2026 5:45 PM

Last month, the Android world was taken by surprise when he heard that Samsung, one of the biggest Android manufacturers, might be abandoning Google Search on its devices and shifting to Microsoft's Bing AI system. This would have been a monumental decision on Samsung's part and a blow to Google because if Samsung had left the search engine giant, Apple would have followed in the same footsteps, but based on new funding, that might not be happening after all.

Samsung may have realized that splitting from Google Search in favor of Bing AI might not be a good idea for both company's relationship

According to information from Wall Street Journal, people familiar with the situation have talked about how Samsung has decided to suspend the internal review that would have decided if the move to Bing AI was going to happen, and this means that the company is going to be staying with Google Search. This, of course, doesn't mean that the possibility is completely dropped, but considering how the South Korean firm suspended a review, it is safe to say that Google is still going to be your default search engine.

Sadly, the source does not clarify the reason why Samsung decided to change its mind, but we are sure whatever the reason is, it is pretty substantial. Over the past couple of months, we have seen an influx of AI-powered features coming to Android and iOS devices. Only yesterday, OpenAI introduced the official ChatGPT on iOS, and a couple of months ago, SwiftKey bought Bing AI integration into their keyboard, an update that still has not been fully rolled out.

The point here is that even if the deal with Samsung is not final, there are countless ways of using Bing AI, ChatGPT, or Bard, for that matter. I think that Google should be the default search engine on all Android devices because these are two parts that fit well together, and separating them might not end well.
