Samsung Rumored To Be Developing A Separate, More Advanced M14 OLED Panel For The iPhone 16 Lineup, Bringing Notable Improvements-February 2024
Feb 12, 2026 8:24 PM

Apple’s position in the industry allows it to gain access to exclusive product parts before the competition, and next year when the iPhone 16 family arrives, things are not going to be any different. The latest report says that Samsung is developing a separate M14 OLED material for the upcoming flagship series, which only means that competing devices will feature this technology much later, missing out on a few advantages.

Improved colors, better efficiency, and higher brightness levels could be a few improvements from Samsung’s M14 OLED material arriving for the iPhone 16

Previously, Apple used to apply its own OLED materials when it announced the iPhone X back in 2017. Slowly and gradually, it began enlisting the help of companies such as Samsung, likely to reduce manufacturing costs. According to The Elec, Samsung’s M14 OLED materials are said to be used only for the iPhone 16 series, but the report does not mention if this particular set will be exclusive to the top two models or all four of them.

For those that do not know, a smartphone’s OLED material set is the composition of materials that panel makers such as Samsung or LG apply to handsets. These materials comprise a light-emitting layer and a common layer. A different composition of the materials set can alter many attributes of the OLED panel, such as power consumption, contrast, brightness levels, and more.

Given that the iPhone 15 series, said to arrive later this year, is reported to ship with more energy-efficient displays, it is likely that the iPhone 16 models will improve upon that. We have a feeling that Apple may reserve Samsung to provide panels for the ‘Pro’ models, while the regular iPhone 16 versions could sport displays from LG and BOE. Samsung has been at the forefront of display technology, and as such, Apple intends to take advantage of this partnership by requiring the very best from the Korean manufacturer.

We will also not be surprised to learn that Samsung has established an entire assembly line for Apple’s iPhone 16 series. Sadly, this is all that we know about the panels, and it is likely that we will learn more about these devices in the coming months. For now, let us divert our attention to the iPhone 15, which will likely be announced in the third quarter of this year.
