“The launch of the Backup Plus Ultra Slim builds on Seagate’s rich history of award-winning innovation to give users even more capacity in an incredibly small form factor,” remarked Seagate Consumer Group vice president Tim Butcher in a related statement. “Based on our breakthrough ultra-mobile hard drive technology, this new storage solution gives them a better way to manage the increase in both data volumes and number of devices.”

The external disk drive ships with both 200GB of complimentary OneDrive storage, and compatibility with Lyve media cloud storage software. It should be noted, however, that the free OneDrive storage expires after two years and that each file uploaded to the service must be less than 10GB in size.
Furthermore, the Backup Plus Ultra Slim includes Seagate’s own Dashboard software, letting you create and schedule backups in either a one-click or multi-step customizable procedure. This, Seagate says, “allows users to schedule backups for when it’s most convenient.”
Sporting roughly 2,000GB of raw read/write storage space, Seagate boasts that the Backup Plus Ultra Slim is the thinnest 2TB mobile hard drive in the world. Meanwhile, the company estimates the pocket-sized external HDD can hold over 500,000 songs, 320,000 photos, or 240 hours of HD video.
The Seagate Backup Plus Ultra Slim will be available in the first quarter of this year, exhibiting both golden and platinum metal finish options designed to match your accompanying mobile devices and PCs. When it ultimately releases, the Backup Plus Ultra Slim portable hard drive will be up for purchase on both Amazon and the official Seagate website.
