See How iOS 10.3 Beta 5 Stacks Up Against iOS 10.2.1 In A Speed Test Comparison-June 2024
Jun 18, 2025 6:39 AM

Earlier this week, Apple has seen fit to release the iOS 10.3 beta 5 to developers. Most likely, the fifth beta will be the last version before the company releases the final build of iOS 10.3 for all supported iPhone and iPads. There are a handful of nifty additions in the forthcoming update that contributes to both, visual aspects as well as performance. However, we still need to see how iOS 10.3 beta 5 stacks up against iOS 10.2.1. So let's dive in to see how both firmware compares to one another in a speed test comparison.

iOS 10.3 Beta 5 Shows Regressed Boot Up Speed On The iPhone 5s

The comparison has been conducted by the YouTuber, iAppleBytes on various iPhone models that support the operating system. The videos have been shared below so do check the comparison in action below.

As you can see, the boot up speed on the iPhone 5s running iOS 10.3 beta 5 is slower compared to iOS 10.2.1. However, only the iPhone 5 and iPhone 6 boots up faster on the iOS 10.3 beta 5. iPhone 6s on the other hand boots up at more or less the same time on iOS 10.3 beta 5 compared to the iPhone 6s running iOS 10.2.1.

In terms of app load time, the speed at which various application launch remains the same on all iPhone pairs running iOS 10.3 beta 5 and iOS 10.2.1. So there's no significant change on that end. Nonetheless, we will probably see more details on this so do stay tuned in for that.

However, do take note that iOS 10.3 is still a work-in-progress and rests in the beta phase. It is by no mean that the performance would remain the same for different iPhone models shown in the video. It is possible that we will see a major bump in performance due to Apple's adoption of the APFS.

APFS, Apple's new file system should bring a major jump in the performance department. Previously, we have seen the comparison between iOS 10.3 beta 1 and iOS 10.2.1 that shows how the new file system improves the performance of the iPhone. iOS 10.3 beta 1 was launched back in January, that brought about major changes internally as well as visually. The APFS showed faster boot up speeds and quicker app loading times. We expect the new file system to show major boost in performance in the final build of the operating system.

This is it for now, folks. What are your thoughts on the iOS 10.3 beta 5 compared against iOS 10.2.1? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
