Remember Optane? The brand was recently killed off by Intel but one of its core divisions, the consumer SSD segment, was sold off to SK Hynix who rebranded it as Solidigm. The fairly new brand has recently launched its P41 Plus SSD series which aims at the mainstream PC segment. Solidigm believes that it can become a major player in the consumer SSD space which has been oversaturated by several brands recently too.

The new Solidigm Spatium lineup is aimed at both high-performance and mainstream segments. The high-end series includes the P44 Pro while the mainstream segments include the P41 Plus SSD series.
Solidigm has announced theSolidigm P41 Plus, the company’s first branded solid-state storage drive (SSD) sincebecoming a companyin December 2021. The P41 Plus is an innovative PCIe 4.0 product that delivers the industry’s best combination of performance and value to PC users for everyday productivity and gaming.
Capable of delivering up to 4,125 MB/s sequential read speed, the Solidigm P41 Plus represents a breakthrough in cost efficiency, delivering great PCIe 4.0 performance at a price that won’t break the budget for everyday PC users.
The Solidigm P41 Plus features 144-layer 3D NAND and is widely available in an M.2 2280 form factor in capacities of 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB. For increased design flexibility, the Solidigm P41 Plus is also available to OEMs in 2230 and 2242 sizes.
Today, I will be testing the Solidigm P41 Plus 2 TB & 1 TB SSDs which are currently available for $129.99 & $69.99 US, respectively.
Solidigm P41 Plus Gen 4 Gen 4 NVMe SSDs
The Solidigm P41 Plus Gen 4 NVMe SSDs come in three capacities: 512 GB, 1 TB, and 2 TB. All three capacities utilize the same Silicon Motion SMI SM2269XT controller and make use of 144-layer QLC NAND Flash. There's no onboard DRAM and the devices come in the standard M.2 2280 form factor which makes them compatible with virtually any modern PC.
The 1 TB and 2 TB drivers are rated at a maximum sequential read speed of 4125 MB/s while the Sequential write speed varies at 2950 and 3325 MB/s, respectively. Similarly, the Random Read is rated at 225/390K IOPs while the Random Write is rated at 520/540K IOS, respectively. The 1 TB is rated at an endurance of 400TB while the 2 TB has an endurance of 800 TB.
In addition to the drives, Solidigm also offers its new Storage Tool, Firmware Update Tool, and Synergy Software suites which offer various functions such as firmware updates, diagnostics, secure eras, performance booster, cache management, S.M.A.R.T. capabilities, and more.

FEATURES
Performance with Impact on real-world workloads
Solidigm has taken a thorough approach to client workload analysis and SSD design across many use cases – from daily student and office work to enthusiast-level gaming and content creation – to understand the actual components of user experience. As a result, Solidigm has designed the P41 Plus to work best for the real-world workloads and applications that you use daily.
Power and Thermal Efficiency
The P41 Plus is optimized for power savings and thermal efficiency to help deliver consistent performance with minimal throttling.
Endurance and Reliability
The P41 Plus is highly durable, allowing you to write more data and read it back with fewer errors over the life of your SSD. You can write hundreds of GB to the drive every day over a five-year warranty period, enabling you to rely on the P41 Plus to provide consistent high performance for the life of your SSD.
Increased Performance and Consistency with Solidigm Synergy
Combine the P41 Plus with the Solidigm Synergy software for a complete client storage solution. Solidigm Synergy enhances performance with a new level of communication between the P41 Plus and your PC, enabling the SSD to optimize your most important files and optimizations for the quickest access.
In terms of performance, MSI's SPATIUM M480 2 TB has sequential read speeds of 7000 MB/s and write speeds of 6800 MB/s. The Random read speeds of these drives are up to 650K IOPS and the write is 700K IOPS. The MSI SPATIUM M480 2 TB SSD has an idle power draw of 22mW and a maximum operating power of 8.2W. The endurance of the lineup is rated at 1400 TBW or 1,600,000 hours which should last a good amount of time with these drives. You are also looking at a 5-year limited warranty throughout the entire lineup.
