Starting Today, WhatsApp Users Will Be Able To Use The Same Account On Multiple Smartphones With Ease-May 2024
May 12, 2025 5:37 AM

Around two weeks ago, we reported that WhatsApp had started rolling out a feature that lets users pair up to phone smartphones on the same account. At that time, the feature was only in beta stage. But today, it is rolling out globally to everyone on the stable channel, and the company has even shared some details about how it is going to work.

WhatsApp has finally started rolling out Companion Mode to all users across the globe

Surprisingly, WhatsApp has revealed that the feature was requested a number of times in the past, and it actually makes sense. The ability to use the same account on multiple devices is great for a number of reasons. The best thing is that each device connects independently and has all the features, including end-to-end encryption, giving you the peace of mind that nothing is going to go wrong with your chats.

Now, to ensure that nothing goes wrong, WhatsApp has mentioned that if the primary device is inactive for an extended period of time, the platform will automatically force logout from all the other companion devices, ensuring that the chats are not compromised. Currently, the process of linking WhatsApp to another phone is the same as before, which involves you scanning a QR code, but the platform has talked about introducing a new way that will let you enter your phone number on the WhatsApp Web app, and you will get a one-time code to log in. However, this new method is not immediately accessible.

The feature is rolling out right now to all WhatsApp users around the world. However, considering how it is a staged roll out, it will take some time before it reaches everyone. It is safe to say that the platform has done an excellent job introducing this feature, as it would allow a lot of people to use the same account across multiple devices. Especially small business owners who would be able to have the same account being managed on multiple devices. You can read more about the latest feature here.

Can you think of any usage of the new Companion Mode? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. Once the feature completes its global rollout, we will publish a tutorial on how to pair additional devices. Until then, stay tuned!
