Tabbed browsing is a major focus of the latest version of Vivaldi
Tabbed browsing is a major focus of the latest version of Vivaldi-May 2024
May 13, 2025 11:28 AM

VivaldiVivaldi has detailed the latest version of its web browser, which is available now. Vivaldi 1.6 puts the focus on tabs, making several tweaks and adding new features to improve the browsing experience when you have a bevy of different pages open at once.

Individual tabs can now display notifications relating to the content on that page, a feature that its creators claim no browser has offered before. As demonstrated in the blog post announcing the new version of Vivaldi, users will be notified when they receive an email or a chat message, and other common uses of notification badges will likely be added going forward.

Notifications will appear on both pinned and regular tabs, giving users another way to keep track of new content on their most commonly used sites and services at a glance.

Version 1.6 also allows users to rename their tab stacks, making it easier to keep things neat and tidy. This option needs to be activated in the settings panel, at which point stacks can be renamed from the right-click contextual menu.

Tab selection by domain is another way that the new version of Vivaldi helps users take control of the content they have open. While they’re holding down the CTRL key on Windows or the Apple key on MacOS, users can double-click an individual tab to select all open tabs from the same domain. Once they’re all selected, it’s a snap to move them to a separate window, bookmark them as a group, or close them all with a single keyboard shortcut.

“This release once again gives me an opportunity to express my gratitude to our team and an ever-growing community who continuously strive to make the browsing experience better,” wrote Vivaldi co-founder and CEO Jon Von Tetzchner. “Try out our latest version and as always let us know your thoughts so that we can make Vivaldi just the way you want it to be.”

Vivaldi 1.6 is available now from the company’s official website.
