The Galaxy Z Flip 5 has been the talk of the town these days ever since we looked at the first official renders of the device. Followed by the renders, we got to know that the phone's external display would be black and not something that would match the entirety of the phone's color scheme. Today, we are getting word on the resolution of the external display as well as some information on its functionality, and yes, we do have some good news to share.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 will have more functionality and widgets, with Samsung finally making the cover screen more useful
The information is coming from Ice Universe and Max Jambor. The former shared how the screen on the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will have a resolution of 720x748 and will measure 3.4 inches, and deliver 305ppi. Shortly after that, Jambor quoted that tweet, talking about the functionality of the new display.
Samsung is bringing quite a lot new features and widgets to the cover screen of #GalaxyZFlip5 https://t.co/AZuRBfg9Ra

Now, the most interesting thing that Jambor has pointed out is that the Galaxy Z Flip 5's external display will offer a lot of new "features and widgets," this means that we are finally getting a cover screen that would actually deliver a proper usage because what we have seen so far has only disappointed us and this is finally a difference that we are getting and a good one at that.
Sadly, there is no confirmation about how far the functionality will extend. Of course, I would want an external, fully functional display that can act as a secondary display with full functionality. On the other hand, Samsung could end up limiting the display to just widgets and other contextual functions.
At the time of writing, we cannot really say what other improvements Samsung is bringing to the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5. However, considering how the phones could come out earlier than expected, it is safe to say that we are looking forward to what Samsung shows us.
