Today in Android Oreo: OnePlus 5T, 3T, Samsung Galaxy S6, and Others-February 2024
Feb 21, 2026 11:18 PM

OnePlus has had a rough past few months, with users reporting credit card fraud after purchasing devices from the store and a potential patent infringement with their Face Unlock feature and a brief suspension of the Oreo open beta for the OnePlus 3/3T. Despite the setbacks, the company is still on schedule with its promised Android Oreo beta program and several other devices are also due to receive an update soon.

OnePlus 5T to Receive New Features in Latest Oreo update

OnePlus backdoor

The OnePlus 5T is an excellent sequel to an equally remarkable device. However, many users were disappointed that the device ran Android Nougat out of the box. OnePlus was quick to promise an open beta for Oreo before the end of 2017 and kept true to its word. Now it's time for the second update, which includes some new stock apps, improves background task management and adds some other quality of life things. Here's the complete changelog of what we can expect with the update:

Added whole new OnePlus Switch application for backup & restorePhone

OnePlus 3/3T Open Beta Adds Face Unlock and More

OnePlus 3T

Older devices often receive delayed updates or none at all in some cases. This, however, is not true for last year's OnePlus 3 and 3T. Both devices are running an active Oreo open beta, which recently received an update that brings the 5T's Face Unlock feature to the 3 and 3T. The complete changelog is as follows:

Other changes include support for Airtel VoLTE in India and an updated launcher.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Might Receive an Oreo Update Next Month

Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus is in the works, as its beta program participants received a notification stating that they'll receive one last update before it ends. However, there was no word about any updates for the older Galaxy S6, until now. According to a thread on xda-developers, a user interacted with a Samsung support representative, who said that Galaxy S6 users could expect an update sometime in February.

It does, however, seem highly unlikely, as the newer Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will very likely get priority over the two-year-old Galaxy S6. But one thing is for certain; the S6 will receive a stable Oreo build in the near future.

Honor 8 Confirmed to NOT Get Android Oreo

Honor 8

While Huawei has been consistent with rolling out Oreo on their flagships such as the P10, P10 and Mate 9 (albeit still in beta), it's subsidiary Honor has had no such luck. A tweet posted by Honor India states:

we can understand your concern. However, we regret to inform you that Honor 8 is not compatible for Android Oreo update due to hardware and software limitations. We always work for our customers and we are really glad to have you as an Honor customer. Inconvenience is regretted.

All hope isn't lost, as the Honor 8 Pro and Honor 8 Lite might still be getting Oreo, as they were both launched a bit later than the Honor 8. We can also expect an update on the recently released Honor 7X and the Honor View 10 in the upcoming months.
