Image used with permission by copyright holderRevealed in October of last year, Far Cry Primal takes elements of the series’ tried-and-tested gameplay, pairing them with some wholly new mechanics and transplanting the whole package to a very different setting. Players will be exploring Mesolithic environments in-game — but they’ll require a fairly recent and decent rig to do so.

　　Thankfully, the system requirements aren’t all that restrictive. The minimum requirements are only looking for a mid-range graphics card and processor, and the recommended specs are far from unattainable for the average PC gamer. 　　Ubisoft is also offering some guidance on which video cards the game will support at launch. In addition to those stipulated in the minimum and recommended requirements, the AMD HD 7000, 200, 300 and Fury X series will all be compatible, as will the Nvidia GTX 500, 600, 700, 900 and Titan product lines. Laptop versions of these cards may work, but are not officially supported.

　　Far Cry Primal breaks from many of the traditional hallmarks of the series, trading its customary exotic modern settings for the Stone Age. It’s also set to make some brave choices in terms of the content being included, as unlike previous installments, it won’t feature any multiplayer content.

　　However, the novel mechanics being brought to the table and its well-realized Stone Age setting might well be enough to make Primal a compelling diversion for the franchise, much in the same vein as 2013’s Blood Dragon. Far Cry Primal is set to release for the PC on March 1, 2016 — one week after it’s unleashed on consoles.
