WhatsApp is finally available on all Wear OS smartwatches running Wear OS 3. Yes, we do know that the app started rolling out back in May, earlier this year, but it was in beta at the time. However, a stable version is now rolling out, and you can go ahead and download it on your smartwatch.
WhatsApp can finally run on your Wear OS 3 watches with no support in sight for older Wear OS version
This should not come as a surprise because we first heard about the app coming back in May at Google I/O 2023, and while it is certainly exciting to see that the update is finally rolling out, the sad part is that if you want to enjoy WhatsApp on your smartwatch, you will have to have a device running Wear OS 3 and older versions are not supported.
Now, as someone who does not use a smartwatch with all these social media apps, it would be lost on me as to why I would need a messaging app on my smartwatch. It turns out that the developers added some nifty features that will make the experience better. For instance, WhatsApp on Wear OS actually has some complications for your smartwatch. This basically gives you quick access to the chats.
As for the rest of the functionality, the good news is that you will be able to use WhatsApp on your smartwatch to respond to voice messages, emojis, and regular text, as well as have access to quick replies, making the app a feature-packed offering for anyone who wants it on their wrist.
At the moment, the support is only for Wear OS 3, but it is safe to say that the app will be headed to Wear OS 4 when it finally comes out. The Galaxy Watch 6 and Watch 6 Classic are scheduled for later this month, and we will keep you posted on whether or not Samsung comes out with the latest Wear OS 4, or at least a glimpse. The reason for that is simple, Samsung is helping Google make Wear OS 4 better, just like the company has done with Wear OS 3 in the past.
If you want WhatsApp on your Wear OS 3-powered device, just download the app from Google Play Store or the official website, and you are good to go. You can set it up in minutes and access all your chats on your wrists.
