You Can Now No Longer Downgrade To iOS 8.4.1 Or iOS 9.0-February 2024
Feb 21, 2026 5:41 AM

Apple has just stopped signing iOS 8.4.1 and iOS 9.0 following the release of iOS 9.0.2 download which was made available to iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users a few hours back.

Whenever Apple releases a new version of iOS, it keeps on signing the prior build for a while, essentially giving users a small window of escape if they want to downgrade for any reason. With the release of iOS 9.0.2, Apple brought in a bunch of bug fixes to the table, while at the same time throwing in another surprise byceasingto sign iOS 8.4.1 and iOS 9.0. This means that if you've upgraded to iOS 9.0.2 immediately and were looking to go down the ladder for any reason, then you cannot do so.

However, it's worth mentioning here that Apple is currently signing iOS 9.0.1, which was released two weeks back, andalso happens to be a bug fix release, not bringing anything new to the table in terms of features.

If you're a jailbreak user, or want to jailbreak, and happen to be sitting on iOS 8.4.1 currently, then we can't emphasize more on the fact that you should refrain yourself from updating to iOS 9. Reports flying around suggest that there's a high chance that a jailbreak for the aforementioned firmware version could drop some time soon.

Those of you who missed the chance to downgrade from iOS 9.x, then all you can do is hope that someone out there would listen to your cry for help and come up with a jailbreak solution. But given how secure Apple has made iOS 9, it's going to be a tough beast to crack.

We're quite certain that we'll hear more on the jailbreak end in the days to come so stay tuned to our coverage. Meanwhile, do not upgrade to any future iOS release until or unless we give the green light to do so, especially if you're a jailbreak user and like doing things which Apple does not allow on a system level.
