Google is reportedly working on a new UIfor its YouTube for Android app. Now, in place of offering PiP mode (Picture in Picture), the app shows a "floating" bar at the bottom of the screen, which also features Play and Pause option within. The new UI also enables users to close the app without the extra swipe.
The company has been testing UI changes for the app for quite some time. This week marks the third change in the UI of app's Android version. Other two changes included a sneak bar that houses the snapshot of the video that you are currently watching while the other change is made to the bottom navigation that now offers quick links to Home, Trending, Subscriptions and Library sections.
All these changes will be implemented through a server-side update pushed by YouTube for its Android app. Other than the changes mentioned above, YouTube has also moved the Upload button to the left search bar. The upper row of search bar now permanently shows the text "YouTube" instead of the current section that the user is exploring in the app.

Uniformity among all the versions of YouTube app
With the test and imminent implementation of these changes in the Android app, we can't help but compare it to the iOS version. Interestingly, with the arrival of these changes on the Android version, it will start looking more like the iOS version of the app. We think, with these UI changes, Google is trying to bring uniformity to all the version of its app on various platforms. It does not matter whether the app is on iOS or Android, the aim is to make it look similar on every platform so that user experience seamless functionality even if they are using it on a different platform.
It is not yet clear whether Google will only bring UI uniformity for the YouTube app only or it has similar plans for other apps as well. For now, it looks like YouTube users for Android have to brace themselves for an upcoming change that will make them learn new ways to use YouTube on their device.
