YouTube Is Giving Users Better Control Over Videos That Appear on the Front Page-June 2024
Jun 14, 2025 2:44 AM

YouTube has come a long way from a place where people used to binge watch cat videos to an indispensable part of our lives. Given its scale, it is only a matter of time before it attracts bad press and YouTube has had more than it shares of it in the recent past. Today, YouTube put out a blog post explaining some of the changes that we'll see on the platform in the coming weeks.

One thing we’ve consistently heard from you is that you want more control over what videos appear on your homepage and in Up Next suggestions. So we're doing more to put you in the driver's seat. Three specific changes we will be rolling out in the coming days:

The primary intent of the changes is to give users better control over what they see on the front page and 'suggested videos' section of the YouTube application. You will now be able to tell YouTube to not suggest videos from specific channels. Similarly, if you're suggested a video and can't figure out why, you'll have the option to find out that reason.

The next change involves how YouTube recommends new content to its users. YouTube has had the ability to learn what kind of content you enjoy and will now use that data to suggest these options at the top of the home page. For example, if you're into Fortnite streamers, YouTube will automatically suggest other videos from the same category based on the content you've already watched.

You can now more easily explore topics and related videos see more such content. The options that you see are based on your existing personalized suggestions and are meant to help you find what you're looking for faster. This new feature can be found on the homepage when you scroll up, and on Up Next when browsing. You'll need to be signed in to your account and should be able to see the new features rolling out across all platforms in the coming weeks. We've seen YouTube play this game before and it'll be interesting to see how things pan out this time.
